The morning of November 18th, 2023, at the Buddhadasa Grounds in Kotte, was bright and extremely sunny and an ideal day for cricket!
This day was a special occasion as it marked the first time in over 04 years that Bartleet Cricket Tournament took place.
12 teams across multiple group companies had been practicing over the last month hoping to field their best and win the coveted title.
Proceedings began with the formalities of the national anthem, Bartleet anthem and the lighting of the oil lamp by Group Managing Director Eshanth Wijesinghe, the Board of Directors and the relevant company CEO’s.
Then it was time for the games to begin!
Every match was competitive, and each team was happily cheered on from the sidelines by their colleagues. The mood was lively with music and commentary over the loudspeaker as well as lots of mingling and good camaraderie between everyone there.
In addition to cricket, there were also other fun and games including basketball which was won by Nishantha and Shamendra from Bartleet Produce Marketing Limited (BPML) and Tug-of-War which was competitive and ultimately won by Bartleet Produce Marketing (BPML) / Bartleet Religare Securities (BRS) and BC Agro-tronics.
There was also an award for the ‘Best Decorated Tent’ and it was clear from outset who the frontrunner for the award was; BRS (Bartleet Religare Securities) with their thematic and colourful signage and tent décor, was appointed the winner.
After nearly 6 hours, 12 matches across 4 groups, and a series of quarter finals, we had our 4 semi-finalists. And then it was finally down to the 02 best teams, CQI-A team, and BRS-A team. After yet another tense, competitive match, it was the CQI-A team that were crowned Champions of the Bartleet Cricket Tournament 2023! BRS-A team were the runners-up.
The party mood continued thereafter with music and dancing as spirits were high. Ultimately, it was a memorable fun-filled day that was attended by well over 300 Members of the Bartleet Family.
